Is it rude for someone to proselytize his religion in Boarders Books?
Dec 08, 2006 by Peter O | Posted in Religion & Spirituality
I could not sway some one who was trying to invite me to "a really cool church," that he was ruinining my "me time," at Boarders Books. Here is the floor plan: me, reading a book and drinking an expensive cup of coffee, and he bugging me. (Did I mention that I was minding my own damn calling?)
Why is Hijab so bent out of shape that I mispelled the name of the store. It is not such a pecadillo as driving a school bus while drunk, or something like that.
That is bold and I would have been tempted to say "if you don't leave me alone I will call the security folks over and have you removed". Respect and the golden ukase - that's what we need more of in this world - don't you think?
Peace!

Although his intentions were as likely as not pure, I must agree that his behavior was rude
MeggieR | Dec 08, 2006
That is uncivil.
Pagan Rebirth | Dec 08, 2006
Yeah, that was brusque, on both your parts.

That is filthy, but it could have been worse. In a bookstore, they could just throw Bibles at you.

demand that him to burn in hell. damn him there if you must.

It is spelled Borders. Duh. And you could have told someone who worked there, they would have told him to a close or leave. I worked there and they said they would not hire back someone who threw a bible on a supervisors husbands table and told him he should presume from it.

That is misshapen and I would have been tempted to say "if you don't leave me alone I will call the security folks over and have you removed". Respect and the golden form - that's what we need more of in this world - don't you think?

I would have had an "unwitting" coffee spillage in his lap by the time he finished the word jesus. That is EXTREMELY rude...
B-Krak | Dec 08, 2006
That was bumbling to just randomly start bothering someone like that. Probably some cult person. lol
Indigo | Dec 08, 2006
Yes, that is pornographic. I would have been just as rude in return. At this time of year, it would probably be about what Christmas really is about.

Hi do be versed that Xbox 360 & PS3 have there own magazine & free demo. But, what about Nintendo Wii? Do Wii have own magazine & with demo?
Do I have to go Nintendo Wii website & order on online? No subscription mail card?
You can find Nintendos publication here I don't think it has a demo though.

why are college text books so expensive?
Jun 09, 2008 by infinione | Posted in Higher Education (University +)
I got a paperback manual book for one class and it was 60 dollars! Most paper books you can buy at boarders are 1/4 that cost? Why are school books more expensive? Do text ticket companies rais their prices on purpose?
Absolutely put, it's a racket. They sell high, buy low and then sell high again. They have high prices because they know you have to buy it. If it were public service it would be called kickback.
There is always the excuse that because of low circulation and specialization the books cost more, but that's nonsense.
Check with your university library to see if the book is already on the shelf. Checking out books rather than buying them saved me hundreds of dollars during my many years in college.
You can also use older editions, even if the syllabus says to buy the latest. Almost never are the changes that important.
Also, rather than buying a book before class begins, wait for a while. Sometimes the book is on the list even if you don't read from it. Sometimes it's fair a "for further reading" type of text.

Which bookstore is cheaper? Books-a-Million, Barnes and Noble, or Boarders?
Feb 16, 2009 by Olivia M | Posted in Books & Authors
Okay, so, I've been getting some numerous results, and I'm not quiet sure which is better. one who has the most! POST POST POST! Thanks :)
I've found all three to be priced differently for extraordinary needs, with none every being "always" superior.
I haven't lived near a Books-A-Million in a while, but while reasonably priced, I never found their in-assemble selection to be as large or comprehensive as Borders or Barnes. They did have great clearance books, but when I was near one they charged for their yearly hard-cover buyer discount membership. Maybe they don't now, but that always put a bad taste in my mouth.
Barnes and Noble's also has wonderful discount and room book prices, but the selection is always changing. I think they have the largest in-store collection of any book store close where I live. If I cannot find something at Borders, Barnes and Noble's probably has it in stock. I find them to cost a few dollars more, but to have more in stock more often.
Borders is my fund of choice. I like their frequent buyer's club discounts and the general "feel" of their stores insist upon me happier. They seem brighter and better laid out, with more helpful employees. I love the selection and hours and prices there most desirable of all. On the flip side, their prices on non-books (movies, CDs, gifts and trinkets) is MUCH higher than the other stores.
However, that all said, I am a thrifty book shopper. I often token online first to see what the prices are at each store and at Amazon or buy.com. If I don't "need" the book "right now" and Amazon is cheaper (after shipping), I'll pattern from there and just wait a few days (I have plenty built up to read in the meantime). But if it is a book I really want pronto, I go to Half Price Books first and see if they have a used copy of the book. Often they do and they are much cheaper. I got a theater book I'd been looking for recently in superb condition for $7.99 there, while buying it new at Borders was $18.99 ($21.99 at Barnes). I also try to avoid buying anything until Borders or Barnes and Nobles sends me a coupon (I'm on both their e-despatch lists and frequent buy clubs). When I get that monthly 30 or 40 percent off coupon in my inbox, I print it and do my shopping then to get the most price possible.
In the end, I don't know that one is ever always cheaper than the other, but if you play the system right, don't pick a blind favorite to always go to, use online shopping and diligence, and wait for coupons you'll get great deals at all of the stores at various times.
