Which online shops are recommended/authorised by the Church to sell Mormon/LDS books etc?
May 19, 1860 by Skinoren and Minocyclin ROCK! | Posted in Religion & Spirituality
I be informed there is Deseret Book and LDS catalog, but are there any others, in the USA or here in the UK?
There are two LDS bookshops in the UK, both sovereign of the church, but you don't need to be "authorised" to sell Church books. They are both called The Latter-day Bookstore and there is one in Chorley, Lancashire, and one in Godstone, Surrey. They are lean towards the Temples to take advantage of the passing trade.
They do offer an online ordering service at www.ldsbookuk.com, although the stores are pleasant and well worth a visit. One warning is that the items sold there can be very expensive since they are imported, and sometimes, depending on the exhange rate, it can occupation out cheaper to by them from www.deseretbook.com (although they rip you off on the shipping charges, and if you buy anything other than books you have to pay the customs charge to bring it into the UK).
There are also the official Church distribution centres. Again, there are two of these selling Church-published materials and other items such as gems and posters. The shops are at the Temples too, on the grounds. I think they do online ordering through ldscatalog.com, or you can order through your Bishop.
If you're looking for a hypnotic read in the Mormon historical fiction genre, there's always my book. Check out www.annajonesbuttimore.com/books.htm - you can buy a copy from me right here in the UK.

question about New Hire Orientation at a bookstore (Deseret Book) - proper attire, etc.?
Nov 03, 2007 by unique1307 | Posted in Other - Careers & Employment
I was only hired at Deseret Book and new hire orientation is tomorrow. When I went in to fill out the paperwork today I asked them what I should wear for tomorrow and they told me that jeans are ok - but I don't hunger to be underdressed, etc. What type of clothing should I wear? Also - orientation starts at 6am, but the store doesn't open until 10am - what kinds of things do you think about it covers? They're having us meet at a different location than the store. THANKS!
If you've ever shopped there, you be informed that business casual is what they usually wear - so I'd go with slacks and nice shirt or blouse, maybe a jacket or sweater (depending on the stand) . Your training may consist of orientation on their rather sophisticated "cash register" system, which uses membership numbers (found by phone bunch) and points, etc. They may also give you the standard greetings, talk about their idea of customer service, breaks, and schedules.
You may also be asked to fill out paperwork - if you haven't already. I'd take a pen & instrument, and be prepared with questions you may have before you start.
