I be familiar with "The dogs of Riga" - starring the famous cop Kurt Wallander of Henning Mankell a few months ago and liked it. But as a enormous fan of Arnaldur Indridason (who's Icelandic, Mankell is Swedish) and of his cop hero, Erlendur, I didn't want to be unfaifthful...

Does anyone be acquainted with where i can find some easy to read , just simple books about getting into the Psychology field? I don't really want information about salary and all that, i paucity to know what brances of psychology are there and what i can get into if i was to pursue this.
I am looking online and i am only really finding things that are for college students , the main body text books which are like 90 bucks a piece hah i dont really want to spend that on one book, so if someone could help me out i would gain in value it.
Thanks1
Go to the library or a city book store and get something like "psychology for dummy's" or "an idiot's guide to psychology". That's what I did when I first started philosophical about getting into the field and it taught me about all the different fields and even the vocabulary psychologists use which is helpful for understanding all the other books you might find.
P.S. there are tons of branches but I'll inventory a few: Developmental, Biological, Sensation/perception, Drugs, Conciousness, Learning, Memory, Motivational, Emotional, Psyche, Clinical etc.

What are some very good reccomended psychology books?

I pine for to a neuropsychologist and i want to read more about psychology. Any really good books that you have read about it that you will reccomend?
Neuropsychology:
The textbook we tempered to was:
Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology (by M. T. Banich - very extensive, but a textbook, so technical, slightly dull and expensive)
Cognitive Neurosciences; A Reader (Ed. Michael S Gazzaniga) a solicitation of papers, easier to read.
However, these are all intended for use by psychology students. You need some baseline knowledge. For starter books, try
How the Mind Works, Stephen Pinker (Pinker writes well) (Note, the theme is not unchallenged: this recieved a book in reply entitled "the mind does not work that way" by Fodor. Pinker replied with an article entitled "How does the insight work then?". Look them up on Google if interested. It's computation models verses modular)
Conciousness Explained (Daniel C Dennett), Any Pinker rules, Any Oliver Sacks book (i.e. The man who mistook his wife for a hat. Awakenings was fairly dry, though. He especially writes about neuropsychology when the position goes wrong)
Basically, look round second hand book stores. Just bve censorious about what you find there. Many pop psychology books are not peer reviewed but will give you a grasp of terminology, studies, basic theories etc. Avoid anything "self escape" - they are more concerned with selling copied than explaining theories, in general.
Any psychology starter textbook (equitable general psychology book) (we used "Psychology" by Carlson, Martin and Buskist. They have loads of these in libraries by, they are expensive, try to loan rather than buy) Gross is the most common of these; sort of the original big daddy of starter textbooks.
Any cognitive psychology starter textbook; this links defeat to neuropsychology
Also, look up any topics of interest on Wiki. It's not a reliable source, but it will give you an idea.

What psychology books by authors such as Aristotle would be suitable for a teenager?
Jul 09, 2009 by Dominator | Posted in Books & Authors
I'm looking for books about subjects such as those which Aristotle covers, or regular psychology, however most of them are very detailed and at a level too advanced. I would like a few recommendations at perhaps a level standard, and also a few other people as the only one im really aware of is aristotle. thanks
aristotle was a philosopher not a psychologist
for psychology books you could try
Psychology and You, Pupil Edition by McGraw-Hill
Psychology, an Introduction by Charles G. Morris
Research Methods in Psychology for High School Students by Jennie Brooks Jamison
or even
Psychology for Dummies by Adam Banknotes

Apr 27, 2009 by burtonage | Posted in Psychology
I'm a university devotee. I just finished my first year, and I am doing a minor in Neuroscience that will include a lot of psychology. Does anyone know any shows, interviews, movies, or books that have a polite cover or discussion of behavioural and emotional psychology (preferably biology based)? I just want something of that nature that will interest me =) Thanks
