Nope, weren't any American comics allowed in Indonesia where he was a kid. But perchance his college years were some influence. http://www.newsspoofs.com/inside-pages/large-images/dope.jpg

Are comic books still worth a lot of money?
Nov 08, 2008 by Vibes | Posted in Comics & Animation
I about you could sell old classic graphic novels for good money.
I have 2 boxes full of comic books since i was a kid, but since our economy has changed so much in recent years, i was wondering if i should even nuisance selling them?
They can be value a lot of money.
If they are from mid-1980's till today, comics probably won't make much money. Other than some exceptions, most of those comics are not that rare.
If the comics are from the prehistoric 1980's or earlier (60's or 70's) then there is a greater chance of them being worth a lot of money. And as other people mentioned, it depends of the modify.
Check out someplace like http://www.comicspriceguide.com/ to get an idea of your comics' worth.
To answer your last question, you should very likely hold on to your comics until the economy picks back up. (just my opinion)
