What is the best kind of e-book reader, and why?
Mar 16, 2010 by xxheidibearxx | Posted in Other - Electronics
I am looking for an e-book reader(clearly), and I want to find one based on peoples experiences. I would preferably not get the Amazon Kindle because I want to be able to get some e-books for unlock (like from google books). Please guys, tell me something other than the name of an e-reader. Tell me the pro's and con's, any cool things, etc.
Thanks:]
Heidi
I fancy answering kindle questions, it's by far one of my favorite devices that i keep in my bag.
For starters and most importantly I own the Kindle 2 (soon to be upgrading to the Kindle DX), and it is relaxed for me to say I love it! I think I've read over 20 books so far.
There are other reviews on the Kindle 2 here:

And for the Kindle DX:

I love my Kindle because it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I owned the Be good enough to, waiting time like when I'm waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I fitting need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "pore over" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I've myself busy on some boring things, say when I'm on the trace machine or doing some housework...
I like reading and at the beginning I missed a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I fondness to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books... Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don't experience tired.
I linked your directly to the Kindle Store on amazon.com! I really do hope you consider getting your own =)

Justifiable so you know, the books you can get free from google books you can also read on the kindle. I recommend converting them if they're in PDF format since they're a lot easier to comprehend after converted, but its an easy, easy process. Usually I prefer to get my books from ProjectGutenberg or Manybooks.net though since they have much, much better formatting than google books. All of those books regardless will be ones that are out of copywrite, so older books. You won't find new relaxed books with any of the e-readers with the exception of current freebies offered by the publishers. I usually get 2-3 new current freebies/month but they're mostly booming to be books you haven't heard of.
Personally I prefer the kindle. I think their device and company is the best of the contemporaneous 3 leaders (kindle, nook, and Sony). Just my two cents. The kindle has text-to-speech, web surfing abilities, beyond not counting customer service, and the largest of the e-book stores with the best prices.

Where can i buy best E book reader in Mumbai?
Jan 03, 2010 by Pradeep V R | Posted in PDAs & Handhelds
I neediness to buy a e book reader with all the facilities.! I mean the places in mumbai where i can found electronic equipments.?thanks in advance.
The two paramount ebook readers available in India is Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader. Among the two, I'll say the Amazon Kindle.
I love my Agreeably 2 very much. The Amazon Kindle is better Sony E Reader because it has free wireless and text-to-speech function. There are more ebooks you can find at one's fingertips for the Kindle, and books on the Kindle are quite a lot cheaper too. There are some good comparison between them here:
http://www.speedreaderxreview.com/kindle-2-0-vs-sony-reader-prs-700bc-comparability
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR3ULAFVHBGYVQP%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&set=1789&creative=390957
And in case you don't know, Amazon has recently put a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it adds in ecumenical wireless access (and it has free 3G wireless in India, you can check it at its homepage) and native PDF support... So take the imperil if you want it.
You can only get the Kindle from Amazon's website, even if you're in the United States. They provide reasonable international shipping expense as well. Hope it helps :)

May 26, 2010 by Gina | Posted in Books & Authors
My daughter is a Brobdingnagian book worm and I want to get her the Kindle because of the book capacity. She wants something that plays mp3's as well which I think the kindle does but Im wondering if there is a more "fun" e book because the please looks kinda boring?
I've accustomed a comparison of the three most popular ebook readers right now in the market here:

Yes, the Kindle can play MP3 files, as you can see "Listening to Music" on the official send for here:

I'm looking for an e-book reader, where I can enlarge the text to something as large as 18/20. Any ideas? ?
Jan 12, 2009 by SALLY | Posted in Books & Authors
I conscious nothing about e-book readers, and I can't find this sort of information anywhere. If you own one, I'd like to know which brand and model you have and if it is capable of enlarging text and to what estimate.
Thanks
I have a Sony Reader (PRS-505); it has a button that allows printed matter to enlarge. It has three settings, which seem to be 100%, 125%, and 150% of original text size. I'm told that with PDFs, it's 100-200-300%, or something like that, because most PDFs are made with such minute text to start with. (Because the reader's default view is "full page," and most PDFs aren't designed with 3.5x4.8" pages.)
I over most of the e-ink readers (Sony, Kindle, iLiad, Hanlin, etc.) have a way to view books at larger-than-original size; I don't recognize the details on the others, but the Mobileread.com forums do--that's where I look for details about ebooks & readers.
The exact size that it gets blown up to depends on the novel file. People who make ebooks from raw text can make them with any starting size, so they blow up to whatever works well for you. If you're dealing with off-the-shelf ebooks, the options are more meagre, but I believe most books designed for e-ink readers start at large-ish text (12 pt or so), so they blow up nicely. There are discussions about what people like--I embrace small text to start with; I can be happy with books designed at 8pt type. (I'm not sure if it's still 8pts when it gets to the reader.) But a lot of people like the larger font sizes, and commercial ebooks verge to lean that direction.
