On Sunday I visited the Unley Museum to inhibit out the Dig In, Don't Wait and Just My Cup of Tea exhibitions. These exhibitions were about the history of Australian meals, as well as what comes in between. The plaque on the entrance of the exposition aptly explained the premise of the exhibitions to be viewed by visitors:
What, when and how we eat all reflect our cultural and family traditions as well as our private taste. They are also influenced by changes in the food industry, new attitudes to health and cultural changes in our society. This display is a look at the history of meals, at what's changed, and what's stayed the same.
The exhibitions offered lots of opportunities for community participation - flaps to be opened, puzzles, blackboards and court dough - lots of things for curious and South Australian foodies, young and old. There were old cookbooks, serving ware and stories from South Australian residents. So here are some highlights from my stop to the Unley Museum, as well as some of the interesting facts I learnt about Australian meals over the last 150 years and the foods' origins.

My nurture passed away in 04 and i have cookbooks/booklets I don't want. Can I sell them? Donate them and take off my taxes ? Where can i find info on this ?
Hello,
I lady-love old cookbooks! They are the best! Especially when they have hand written notes in them about the recipes. Do you have any friends that like to cook? Ask them first.
If not, you could take them to Salvation Army, AmVets or Stock will and get a tax deductable donation slip! I sure hope they find a good home!
Good Luck, and sorry to find out about the passing of your mother!

You can send them to me!! I have a elephantine collection of cookbooks! LOL
Other than that, you can try and sell them on eBay, or donate them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

looking for websites related to old recipes, out of date cookbooks?
May 04, 2007 by lou | Posted in Cooking & Recipes
where can I go on the internet to get daily help finding old recipes from 40's, 50's, 60's which may've been in old branded cookbooks? don't have a clue about sites like this, but they must be there somewhere
Soup of Home Cooking magazine. It is wonderful, not your average cooking magazine, check out
www.tasteofhome.com
The magazine is full of recipes from almshouse makers & grandma's, and mom & dad's. It has holiday recipes, game recipes, old recipes, southern, northern, foreign,....
The periodical also has a section where you can write in a search for an old recipe you are looking for from the past. Not sure if the web site offers that also.

Teeny, tiny bugs in old cookbooks?
Sep 20, 2007 by SCMom | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
I have a 20 year old cookbook that I've reach-me-down a lot, and hence, spattered, spilled, and splashed bits of food on. Now it has teeny, tiny bugs (just visibile to my eye) in it. How can I get rid of these bugs? Should I paralyse the cook book or heat it to get rid of the bugs. Can I safely heat it to 200 degrees without destroying it (does composition really burn only at Farenheight 451)? I want to save this book and have it bug-free!
Frore it sounds like it will work. I wouldn't heat it. Check at places that preserve books,or check the Library, they might understand something better. Byee

I am having a garage sale. How much should I charge for old clothing ,cookbooks, paperbacks, and VHS?

I also have jewelery and cosmestics and some bedding I longing to sell. I usually just donate items to homeless shelters but need the cash to help with a rental entrust.
In a garage reduced in price on the market you hardly get respectable cash unless some items are in demand. Bargain and sell quickly if you want something in hard cash. Perhaps if you display a Playcard at site that you would donate the sale proceeds as cash to needy people as help for rental set it may attract kind people who may pay you more than what you would get otherwise.
