What are the textbooks in the US so massive and heavy?
Jun 22, 2009 by Lazy Eight (∞) | Posted in Higher Education (University +)
I don't be conversant with the purpose of making the textbook difficult to carry. Textbooks are so heavy and causing my shelve to distort. When I was in high prime, I always had to carry 60lbs of books in my backpack. Why can't publishers use a different material to make books ? In China and India the textbooks are very fluorescence and easy to transport, so it can be done.
I harmonize with you. Books have always been heavy. I remember carrying them around with me back and forth daily because of school work and studying for tests.
My impression: The books get heavier, thicker, and the print gets smaller the older we get. There are simple ways to explain ideas, and as we endure our education, the way those ideas are explained use more vocabulary words and long-winded explanations.
When we get to college, we are usually buying the hard-cover the Professor wrote for the class. It has always made me wonder. MOST reading material in the military is written at the 6th grade level. With Energize technology out, is this another option for carrying books? Today there are also electronic versions of books available online for use and regard in pdf. A better archive and library to access. You have the quick find keys, etc to assist.

What to do with recently purchased textbooks?
Nov 12, 2006 by perriermb | Posted in Teaching
I recently went to a precinct-wide textbook sale and purchased about 10 textbooks that interested me. After I selected one, worked through a lesson, and did the practice problems, I realized that the devotee editions of the textbooks didn't contain any answers. Any suggestions as to how I should check my work or aquire the answer keys to the textbooks?
The textbook companies categorically make it hard for independent learners to check their answers. I suppose that this greatly cuts down on the student no more than copying the answers in the back, but a textbook is worthless to an independent learner without the key.
If you would like to contact me about any of the textbooks, e-mail me at perriermb@yahoo.com
Noble for you for trying to learn outside the classroom. I'll be honest, though. You can't blame this one on the companies. Many teachers don't want the answers nearby for their students to copy, so the companies have to keep them private. Check the publishers' websites, and contact them to see if they will help you. If not, see if you can get a teacher at the apart level to help you with this, or at least to check your answers.

How to recycle old textbooks in the Chicago area?
Jun 23, 2008 by melcal | Posted in Chicago
I've got mountainous college textbooks from ~10yrs ago. I hate to throw these into the trash. They're not really worth attempting to resell them. Anyone know where I can take them to get debilitated down? These are laboratory medicine-type books, so not worth donating either. Thanks!
There are lots of online venues that garner it easy to sell used textbooks, like Textbookbuyer.com. By typing in the ISBNs, you can quickly see the offering prices. If you're not interested in selling them at all, but entirely want to get rid of them right away because they're taking up space, then maybe there is a recycling center in your area that might have a use for the books. I'm outr why you say they're not worth donating? Are the books really specialized? If nobody wants them, then maybe recycling is the best answer.

Is it legal to sell international edition textbooks in Ebay and Amazon?
Jul 14, 2008 by mochris321 | Posted in Law & Ethics
Hi, everyone, I have an worldwide editon textbooks and would like to re-sell it online either on eday or amazon. However, after I have done some book searches, I didn't find any post selling global edition textbooks anymore? Have it become illegal or these websites try to discourage this kind of sale?
The actuality is that it is illegal to purchase international books and bring them to the US to sell. The publishers would argue that you are advertising a false output when you list the book for sale as the ISBN of the US edition is different than the International one.
In a recent survey done by Campusbooks.com, a textbook evaluate comparison engine, they noted that over 75% of responding students do not have interest in International editions.
This doesn't mean you can't tell on it, it just means you should be up front and honest that it is an international edition. If you clearly state it in your description then the site you are selling through will stay it if they want.
eBay and Amazon have deals with the publishers so they crack down on international copies. You can try Valorebooks.com or AbeBooks.com, you might have outdo luck.
