One is "Pure Effect" by Derren Brown.

Make sure of Amazon for used books.
Tricks of the Mind by Derren Brown (Paperback - 2007)
2 Used & new from $14.24
These are very rare books, and very troublesome to find, as you surmise. Here's a copy of "Pure Effect" at $47.90, although it's backordered (you can still order it):

Ian Rowland sells the Cold Reading hard-cover directly for GBP28, which is, unfortunately, about $57. And it looks like it ships from the UK, which will add some not-insignificant postage.
I *DID* find this link, which purports to be a download of the libretto. The link takes you to a download service which is essentially a file-sharing service. It costs something like 5 or 6 bucks, but it looks like the effect will be an electronic or scanned copy of the book. I cannot say whether this is legal or not, but if it's not, I'd advise you not to download it. Still, it's out there, so it might be legal:

Hope this helps.

How does Amazon.com decide what books are discounted?
Aug 12, 2007 by I Like Reading | Posted in Other - Business & Finance
Most books have some solve of discount if bought off of Amazon.com. However, some books are sold for their full price. How does Amazon decide what books get discounted? Do they discount books that are more likely to sales-clerk? Is it from the publishers? Some other factor?
Many reasons.
Inventory unfluctuating
cross promotion with another product
Usually it comes down to lack of demand.

Can anyone recommend a good website that sells "cheap" discounted books?
May 31, 2009 by natt1718 | Posted in Books & Authors
There old to be a specific site I used where I bought used books for half the price (no not Ebay) but I can't seem to find that site anywhere! Does anyone be sure of any sites I can go to and buy books really cheap? Thanks for your help!
Half.com is company for used books especially textbooks but if you are looking for other things try paperbackswap.com. I use that site and it is great. You just post old books that you don't fancy anymore and every time ynt to get any other book on the site. So the only thing you pay is shipping.

Where can I buy discounted hardcover books online?
Aug 08, 2007 by Elizabeth | Posted in Books & Authors
I'm looking to buy Fahrenheit 451 and 1984, online, hardcover--if conceivable, from the same website. I was surprised to see that none of the bookstores in my area had Fahrenheit 451! And all copies of 1985 were paperback.
I've checked Amazon and theorize I can get the books from there if need be...but I have a feeling that I can find the two novels at a cheaper price.
Thanks for the help.
Try Alibris (relationship is below)
I just checked and they have both in hardcover.
