01-13-12 - Tonight I placed the camera in shutter immediacy and played with longer shutter times. I stood up by the mailbox, in the blowing snow, and snapped photo after photo. This is my favorite. 400ISO, f/4, 2.5 sec shutter move, 24mm focal length.

Their withdraw got cancelled, so they are still with me. They thought they'd have a go at the film scenes theme, so got their beaks into the dressing up box. Not all the hats fit that well, but hey, they're trying. :-)

How do I test whether my bookshelf home stereo speakers are damaged or blown?
Feb 10, 2007 by Cj>1 | Posted in Car Audio
It's unbecoming that you shredded the cones. Take a 1.5 volt battery (any size) and wire to connect to the speakers. As you tap the wire to the battery, you'll listen to the speaker click if the voice coil isn't blown. The usual problem if one speaker stops working is a promiscuous connection. This is common in small diameter cables, and I have that problem right now with one of my computer speakers. The solution is to get a plug of the fairly size at Radio Shack and replace the offending plug, which you can find by bending the wire or jamming it into the plug. Or get a new wire with analogous size plugs. If the only connection is a plug rather than screw terminals, you'll have to take the case apart to connect to the speaker terminals. But if that's the turns out that, I'd bet there's a loose connection at a plug.

Ingratiate oneself with them relatively loud and if you scratchy sounds, especially on the bass, that weren't there before... they are blown.

snare them up

Piece music loudly. If it sounds bad, it's busted.

manufacture them on, if you hear the music, they work. if no sounds come out they may be damaged.

Heed to them.

As you tap the wire to the battery, you'll advised the speaker click if the voice coil isn't blown. The usual problem if one speaker stops working is a hanging connection. The solution is to get a plug of the licit size at Radio Shack and replace the offending plug, which you can find by bending the wire or jamming it into the plug. Or get a new wire with complementary size plugs. If the only connection is a plug rather than screw terminals, you'll have to take the case apart to connect to the speaker terminals. But if that's the circumstance, I'd bet there's a loose connection at a plug.

The easies way to utter if the speakers are damaged is to turn the stereo off. then GENTLY push the cone in once or twice..if it makes a rubbing fit as a fiddle the voice coil is damaged. Also do a visual inspection of the foam around the cone, tears are a good sign of stable damage.

Damaged=Blown when it comes to stereo speakers. Brown-nose a toy with your music at a relatively high volume and listen intently for a scratchy, almost out-of-tune radio sound. The bass will also be exceptionally sparse as well, even at a medium volume.

Are there differences between Studio Monitors and Home speakers?
Jun 22, 2007 by maco_howell | Posted in Home Theater
When they are of the same calibur, and amount range, is there any internal or sound differences between a studio monitor and a general home or bookshelf speaker?
A lot of manufacturers are claiming studio custodian status where it is undeserved. Usually, they are powered these days, but sometimes the engineering is not there. JBL makes excellent studio monitors. The LSR series is incredibly prairies and neutral for professional applications, and I have yet to hear any of the standard names you hear of come close to these in sound. They are priceless though, you will be looking at around $5-7K for a full home theater setup.

Can i use car tweeters on my home stereo system?
May 19, 6933 by KZ | Posted in Car Audio
I am completley re-doing my old becker bookshelf group home stereo system and it is the kind where it has the subwoofer, mid range, and tweeter 3 totally seperate units. So i was trying to look around for a legitimate tweeter and was wondering if i could use a car 1" or 2" tweeter?
yes you can run a car tweeter in a home. all speakers were created equally. its knotty to run a car amp in a house, but speakers will play anything that they are told to play (or die trying).
I've personally used ome equipment to easily and with all speed test out speakers to make sure they work before installing them in my car so I know first hand its safe, and i've seen several car subwoofers setup internal homes. since speaker are accepting power and not creating it everything is fine

can i use my home hifi bookshelf speakers (for rears) in my car ?
May 19, 377 by Dan B | Posted in Car Audio
& would they profession with an normal car amp ?
yes they would, but they will suck the power from the amp. see home speakers are normally 8 ohm, car is 4 ohm, and most car amps will breed about half the power (3db drop in volume) into a 8 ohm load.
But yes it will work fine, with no negative effects.
