how does athena help odysseus in books 9-12? story of the cyclops, aeolus, the laestrygonains, circe, Hades...
Apr 09, 2008 by karate kicka girl | Posted in Mythology & Folklore
sirens, scylla, charybdis, and livestock of the sun????
10 pts thanks.......
this is the odyssey btw
Athena helps Odysseus with the sirens by effectual him to not listen to their song or, if he desperately wanted to, have his men tie him up so he cannot get free.
She helps him with Scylla by only allowing it to attack his ship once.
She helps him with Charybdis by allowing him to animate even though his ship was destroyed.
She tells him not to eat the cattle of the sun, but his men do anyways, and he escapes but is doomed to wander the seas a little while longer.
She helps with the cyclops by giving him brawn to blind the cyclops and then allows him to escape via the livestock.
The laestrygonians she helped him by helping him escape even though some of his men died ( I contrive some died)
With Circe Athena tells Odysseus how to stop her from charming him and warns him about her crafty ways.
In the Underworld she tells him how to discourse with the dead without danger.
Finally, the aeolus he gets the bag of bad winds and he has smooth sailing all the way until he almost reaches home, then while he was sleeping his men opened it and they sailed away.
Hope this helped.

I also muse over that he needs to be home when Odysseus arrives home?
PS. That might be wrong because I read only parts of that book like 2years ago and I like got a D on the examination I had on it.

In the Odyssey by Homer, when did Athena plan to have Odysseus shoot arrows, so Penelope would recognize him?
Jun 27, 2009 by aero847.youtube | Posted in Mythology & Folklore
What list do Athena and Odysseus "plan" to have Odysseus shoot arrows through a hoop (or something like that), when Penelope is choosing a mute. i don't want to know when they actually shoot arrows, but when it is being planned. Which book? And if you have read the Rieu Penguin's Prototype translation, which page?
The shooting struggle is thought up in Book 19, the bow is strung and shot through all 12 axeheads in Book 21, death of the suitors are in register 22.
Odyssey' bow was so strong that only the hero himself could have restrung it and the 12 axes prove his archery skill. He then shoots the suitors and at long last Penelope ask him to move the bed but a tree makes up one the bed post which Odysseus correctly answers that it impossible due to the tree. Penelope accepts that Odysseus has returned.

Nov 12, 2007 by Josie | Posted in Homework Help
I have to do a protrude for english and i have to make a childrens story or a comic or any story about athena, and i ave no idea what to write about..help!
I have to make up a scenario about athena and make it into a childrens book or just a story..i need ideas..help!
Does it have to be based on a history? Why not tell the story about the orgin of the spider? Arachne versus Athena-- that would be cool! Also, her birth (springing from Zeus' source is cool) as his her role in the Odyssey and the Iliad. I think that as a teacher, I would like the spider one best-- there is alot to industry with and it could either a children's book or a comic
