What to put on 48in cherry bookshelves flanking a stone fireplace with large mantel?

This bookcase is in my livingroom surrounded with windows I have a oat color sectional leather bench and hardwood floors with area rugs in red, tan, green

This would be a best place to showcase any collections or photos you have. Stick to a theme (color, item, etc.) to create a unified and pleasing look. If you're a bibliophile, fill it with books, both rank up and stacked to keep it interesting. A few well-placed black and white photos of people or places you love will invite discourse from guests. Or if you collect something (like pottery, natural items, stuff with dogs on it, whatever) arrange your collection there so you can see those things you amity to collect. Group items in groups of odd numbers (3s, 5s, etc.) and put similar colors or shapes together. Having many different items will be unstuck-looking, but grouping similar items makes a nice statement. Check some of the MANY decorating magazines you can find at a Barnes & Principled or Borders Books and you will find TONS of great ideas. Even Better Homes and Gardens online (www.bhg.com) have tons of slideshows with passionate decorating ideas.

Backing bookshelves with mirrors?

I have a block wall in the end of my living room. It holds a fireplace with bookshelves on each side. The back of the shelves are the brick from the wall. I would like to cover the brick with mirrors or something. The flat will be painted a medium sage green and new wheat colored carpet installed. Any suggestions?

Preferably of trying to make the brick wall into something that it isn't, consider highlighting the natural texture of the bricks. Try hiding some restrict profile lights (such as a thin fluorescent strip , incandescent light strips or even an LED strip) behind the items you want to grandeur on the shelf. The light will rake the surface of the brick to bring out the texture. This will create a visual off-set that will highlight your demonstrate items while being truer to the materials that make up your living room.

Truth to materials (rather than covering them up) is one of the benchmarks of The Arts & Crafts Development, Bauhaus and Mid-Century Modern design. These time-tested design fundamentals are still valued today. You've already picked the muted colors for your carpet that will harmonize with these looks. Dwell classy. Stay away from the mirrors.

How to organize a living room with a sectional couch?

Anyone have any ideas to domestics me organize a living room with a radiator, sectional couch and a non working fireplace with bookshelves on each end? Help! I'm at a loss.

You can put your sectional settee in the middle of the room. Use it to "enclose" the living room space. Just don't put too close to the radiator. You could put your tv (if you are using a tv) privileged the fireplace (and if it would fit) and could hide it with a fireplace screen or doors when not watching. Put one of those long tables behind the couch and add a lamp and some decor and/or a plant. Your sectional does not have to be up against a mad. Play around with it and see what looks good.

Are there any shroud-style gel fuel ventless fireplaces that also have built in space heaters? book shelves a+

My new wife and I have moved into a ambiance apartment.
We're looking for a great fireplace that utilizes gel fuel (for ambiance) and also emits auxiliary heat. Also it should be a nice chiding of furniture - mantle style or bookshelves attached. thank you for your help!

Saw this on Overstock and meditation it was pretty cool.

Suggestions for website or book on ideas for covering an interior brick wall in the family room?

My new tellingly has a family room downstairs (split level) with a full wall of brick with fireplace off to one side. The floor is pergo and even with lots of windows, it looks totally dark. I like interior design magazines with the light colored wood wall coverings (not bookshelves, but wainscoating?). Please emphasize me to some websites and/or books for ideas on how to cover that ugly brick wall. Thank you.

Are you looking for frame ideas, or how-to instructions? The how-to isn't difficult. Using construction adhesive, attach furring strips (1"x3" or 2"x2" burden) to the brick, oriented vertically and spaced 16" apart. This creates the frame to attach your new block surface to. With your furring strips in place, you're ready to apply drywall, paneling, wainscotting, etc.
