How can you secure a bookshelf from leaning forward on a carpet without connecting it to a wall?
Oct 01, 2007 by jonacclis | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
The bookshelf is on carpet and there is no way to fire the carpet. I don't want it to lean forward when I put the books on it.
Match it back and insert shims in the front.

Contend with it back and insert shims in the front.

you have to put your violent books at the bottom of the bookshelf and put the light ones on top.

You can use shims to be open the bookshelf back towards the wall. Most anything will work as a shim. Carpenters use scrap pieces of wood for this purpose, although you can use folded up cardboard for the same results. Position the shims under the front of the bookcase until you get it level.

Council on carpet & possible wedges under board at the front. Then put shelf on that. Heaviest stuff on bottom to secure. Could always have short, heavy accouterments placed in front.

You could get paltry L brackets and place them on the backside of the shelf and screw it securely into the floor.

how inebriated is your ceiling? how far is it from the top of the bookshelf?
not saying suspend the bookshelf. for some reason, you don't want the bookshelf attached sideways (i.e., to the close off). then again, there has to be another section of the shelf that will support the weight of the books that are put in it apart from the bottom that goes directly atop the whip. so, maybe connecting it to the ceiling is something you may need to look into.

Which wood can be stained to look like cherry?
Nov 15, 2006 by Mindlessfun | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling
I am making a bookshelf and can only get my hands on undeniable types of finished plywood for the sides and back of the bookshelf.
I can get Oak, Birch and Maple. I was leaning toward maple.
The finish I need to measure up to is dark and not completely transparent on cherry wood.
Birch is the with greatest satisfaction choice. It will take the stain to look like cherry better than maple. Oak doesn't come close to the ounce structure of cherry.
Maple tends to be very dense and doesn't take stain very well unless you want a very, very like color.
I have adapted to birch plywood for the back portions of several cherry pieces and it can be made to look more like cherry than the other two choices.

Where can I get something to stand my trading cards?
Jun 01, 2008 by Ben J | Posted in Hobbies & Crafts
I am hardly looking for something that my trading cards can lean on so that they stand up on my bookshelf. Maybe an L shaped part or something?
You can use mini easels that you use with unpretentious plates or picture frames. You can find them cheap at the Dollar Tree!

I have a technical question about books?
May 19, 3425 by Le Paul | Posted in Books & Authors
I'm struggling over here! What's the offset name for an item that separates books on bookshelves? You know keeps them from leaning over and looking like crap! It's not a book weight, for that keeps your enlist open. What the hell is it called! Thanks!
Yeah Roo, I thought bookstop too! It made sense because of the store Bookstop.
So, it's called a bookend! Thanks!
