I went on yet another one of my order buying binges. This time, however, it was essential! I had to buy some books for school. I also picked up a ...
A school can buy 150 books costing $12 each.If the price is reduced by 20%,how many more books could be bought
Jan 09, 2008 by jay | Posted in Mathematics
use inverse balance
150 *12 =1800
12*20/100=9.6
9.6*150 = 1440
1800-1440=360
360/12=30 is the explanation correct. Is there any other method
If they buy 150 books @$12 each, they are spending $1800.
If the $12 price is reduced by 20%, it becomes $9.60.
1800 ÷ 9.6 = 187.5
Unmistakably they can't by 0.5 of a book, so how many more can they buy if the can now buy 187? 187-150 = 37. They can buy 37 more books.
I really couldn't figure out your method above. Hope you are clear on this.
that's it! :)

mount up to money=150*12= $ 1800
now cost per book
= 80/100*12
=$ 9.6
books that can be purchased
=1800/9.6
=187.5
or 187 books so additional
187-150 = 37 more books can be purchased

The only constituent wrong with your explanation is the last step:
you should use 360/9.6 = 37.5
therefore 37 more books.

Help, in calculating addl. books, what would be you per unit price?
To really spice up the problem you could have been asked the same question, but lets say you are given the knock off based on the number of books you buy.
For example,
How would that change your answer and approach if you're only given an over all discount if you buy more than 100 books? Your approach would be basically the same.
How many addl. books could you buy if you bought 110 books?
Sham question, based on the criteria I just gave you, how many more books could you buy if you only bought 99?

Help With a 12 Year Old's Budget?
Sep 07, 2008 by disneymagiclover | Posted in Personal Finance
I have $85 money on hand and I am not sure what to do with it. I have already deposited money in my bank account and donated $50 to charity with my money. There are several knee-pants term things I want: 3 books (priced $12.59, $11.60, and $16.99), and insurance for my cell phone. I am also redemptory up for a Wii, my sister pays $100 and I pay $150. I am not sure how much I should put in the Wii fund, and what to do with short-term spending. I have a $17.45 Barnes and Gentlewoman giftcard, so I could probably buy a book with that, then should I buy the others, borrow them from the library, etc., and how much should I put in the Wii fund? (I currently have approx. $41 in the Wii fund.)
So basically can you enter a occur up with a budget plan for me, like how much to put in the Wii fund, what books to buy (if any), how I should use my giftcard, what books to borrow from the library, etc.
Thanks a lot!!!
Ok....I would very recently get the books from the library...if you really like one, then buy it with your gift card.
Otherwise, just put $50 in your Wii fund, use some of your other money to pay the cell phone guaranty, and the rest for spending money!
Hope I helped...

Okay so, I have this Boba Fett deed figure that's 12" tall and in near perfect condition and I know that Boba Fett is one of the most sought after Heroine Wars characters so I'm wondering if I should sell it on eBay?
I probably won't but everyone has their price, right? :P It has some very nice details, like the braided Wookiee scalps, that fabric thing, removable jetpack, openable pockets, etc and all the parts of his armor seen in the movies and comic books. You can even move down that spot antennae thing on his helmet (don't kill me Star Wars fans, I know it's not an antennae).
Here's some front and back pics, not full hugeness obviously:
So, with that, what do you entertain the idea? Oh, and I have a stormtrooper one that's similar to this one, but it has some slight marks and it's missing it's blaster.
*It might have came with a blaster which I will try to find
* It's extremely movable, you can broach it however you like
*it may look scratched but that's just his armor. Star Wars collecters would obviously know that, though.
*some of his weapons that look like saws and knives are in his drawers legs, amazing detail
This looks to be the fresh 12" boba fett, which I don't think is worth nearly as much as one from the 70's or 80's, but to get a better support, ask over on rebelscum.com, in the forums (of course.)

Calculating Price/Book Value in the title insurance industry?
Oct 27, 2008 by newinvestor22 | Posted in Investing
I have removed the goodwill and intangibles from the record value and calculated on a outstanding share basis, but the numbers just don't add up.
How can the Price/BV be...
Stewart Title 15.12/26.04
LandAmerica 7.55/13.77
First American 18.82/.43
Fidelity 7.81/.01 !?
I'm not tried what your question is.
Are you disappointed that the ratio isn't a constant? Why should it be. The book value is not terribly meaningful in the first place. Second, the price is affiliated to what people are willing to pay and people are looking for earnings, not the breakup value of the assets.
