But isnt the bible a book of short stories from different authors translated from different scrolls?
May 22, 1597 by Kelly | Posted in Religion & Spirituality
I tight the bible has more than one author correct? so even thou the bible is one book it is a series of different authors who wrote the same story what are the statistical odds of that?
No, the bible has one inventor, God. It has about 40 different writers that acted as human "secretaries" if you like, to record the thoughts and instructions from God.
The apostle Peter explained it this way:
"because no crystal-gazing ever originated through a human decision. Instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." -- 2 Peter 2: 21
But you are above-board, it is a collection of 66 seperate books, in fact the word bible comes from the latin "biblia" gist "little books". The fact that they form a single unit is evident not only from the fact that there is a fix theme that runs through all the books, but that it would be difficult to fully understand one book without having read the others.

Yep.
But if the authors be given b win from a common culture with a common series of myths, and their writings were selected by a group of people with a common agenda (i.e.; the Caucus of Nicea) for specific purpose to form the "canon" for the Bible, it's not surprising at all that the stories would have certain similarities.

Translated from Hebrew into Greek, back to Hebrew, into Greek again by discussion of mouth. Then it was put into Greek and put on paper. Then it was translated into English.
Look at the stories of Luke, Mark and Matthew. They don't compact up at all.

AND,
is not a book of short stories from different authors translated from different scrolls.

Pay closer r, even the apostles who were supposedly there all have different versions of what went on with Jesus

Just right. 66 little books penned (not authored) by about 30 (or is that 40) different men over a span of 1500 years or more. What are the odds that such disparate timing and authorship would turn out such a completely harmonious collection?
Kelly: I'm not sure, but I think people are misinterpreting your question. You're acknowledging this as a bear witness in FAVOR of the bible right?
Jeremy: Hmmmm, if you have several reporters covering the same story will they all report the same details or will they all have the basics... the more well-connected points ... and vary in the details they choose to add?

66 books by 40 people over a 2000 year patch. God is the author, men just penned it.
Chad D | May 22, 1597
Yes, and they many times contradict each other. That is why christians have to make up elaborate 'explanations' for the obvious contradictions.

So many things though in the Bible go with. And what are the odds. They didn't have telephone conferences or email each other. So yea it was from many different people but it was all inspired by God.

there is no support it was written by different authors from different regions at different times to many books containing the same message. this is a myth preachers amity spewing from the pulpit. even the 4 books of jesus were long after he was dead, so none of them where actual eye witness accounts.

That authentic supports the Bible's claim to authenticity ... It had around 40 writers, from over thousands of years, from several continents ... yet there is not one deviation, not one contradiction, the only logical explanation is that there was one controlling it behind the scenes, that was around all of those thousands of years and on each of those continents... "But isnt the bible"...pore over chapter three in Genesis and compare your reasoning with his...
Are you mmaking a question, or questioning the belief in the Word of God?
Do you know that inequality? More important, do you know enough to question its validity?
I am not an expert, and would not dare to question any specific topic unles I would have acquired undoubted understanding of what I question.
There are differences between "fat" and "swollen" and "question" and "pompousness". Would you know what are their differences?

You are put right. The Bible was written by many different people who were INSPIRED by what they believed to be God. "Sunshine" is wrong. Archeology proves it.

Ever heard of a small thing called "oral tradition"?
This is were a story is told over-and-over again, passed down through generations, then someone wrote them down.
There are also many passages in the Bible, that are discussion-for-word copies of other ancient religious texts that already existed like the Epic of Gilgamesh, Egyptian, Greek and others. Moderately easy to get the same story if your just making a copy!
And really, all the stories are written EXACTLY the same? Seems to me, many details in the gospels reorganize from author to author, showing that they never witnessed anything they wrote down and didn't hear the same version of the story, and wrote down the translation they heard, possibly adding their own details in the process.
Heck that still happens today! With all the different versions of the Bible, including ones that have added up to date words, possibly changing the meaning of certain passages in the process, how can you be sure that ANY Bible you read is the "inspired" chat of God?

oh my..
even when there is no preaching! a ourselves can't even WRITE about christianity without getting thumbs down.
i will now conclude that all atheists are fuckwits until one of them proves me wrong and just RESPECTS that people can about their religions with each other EVEN WHEN THEY AREN'T PREACHING TO PEOPLE!!

Yes you are tickety-boo. Religious scholars have found several version of ancient text in Greek and Hebrew. They also have proof of some of the authors. As an example, there were 3 multifarious stories about the "flood" and Noah.
PBS had an excellent series about religion. One of the documentaries was about this topic. The Bibles provenience and authors. It was very enlightening. I suggest all good Christians watch it.

1) But isnt the bible a soft-cover of short stories from different authors translated from different scrolls?
Essentially this is correct.
2) what are the statistical odds of that?
Judging by the extensive number of multi-author and shared-world anthologies that are available, I'd say the odds were extremely good. I stand up for "Sherlock Holmes' War of the Worlds" by Wellman (after first reading at least one "Sherlock Holmes" register and "War of the Worlds," of course).

Yes, particular authors over a long period of time. That is one reason for its inaccuracy. Because of God's mercy to mankind, He, about 600 years later sent another publication for mankind that has not changed and still exists in its original language until today, the Quran. It confirms the previous messages, corrects the misreading, and calls people to prepare for the day they meet their lord.

What's the proper way to site the Bible/books of the Bible in an essay?
Jan 03, 2007 by Caity | Posted in Homework Help
Within an essay, when the Bible is sited or viva voce of, is it supposed to be underlined? Or in italics? Or in quotes? Same question for specific books of the Bible. I believe I am correct in just capitalizing for the Old Testament, but for the Tome of Job I'm not sure, italicized perhaps? Any thoughts?
At best write it word for word as you would any other sentence. Use capital letters when needed such as at the beginning of a verse or for a name, etc.
